Busy Families Can Have Beautiful Photos, Too

Just because you’re busy doesn’t mean you can’t get beautiful family photos! So many families come to me and are worried about all kinds of things, especially when they have young kids, jobs, etc. How will they get everything planned and done in time for their family photos? So, moms and dads, I’m going to break down a review I recently got and explain exactly how I made their photo session stress-free and fun!

What are you worried about?

“I’d give Becca more than 5 stars if I could!! I have a husband who is just not into photos, a toddler, a newborn, and a quasi-obsessive nature that needs to control all the details to get everything JUST RIGHT. I was honestly very worried that the whole experience would be too stressful, especially only days postpartum.”

These are some common worries that parents have before their session. This mom in particular had booked an outdoor newborn session with me, and planning outfits and a location for her family photos while also busy growing a new baby and taking care of a toddler is probably a daunting task.

How can we overcome these worries?

Rather than having to go to a store and try on a million dresses, or ordering something online that might not look how you thought it would in person, you’re able to take advantage of my client closet! I have lots of dresses and kids clothing. Many of my dresses are meant to fit multiple sizes so that makes it super easy. Plus I have tons of kids clothing for all sizes. You’re welcome to make an appointment to try on clothing ahead of time, or just ask me to bring a few of your favorites to the session. The best part is that you don’t have to worry about steaming or ironing anything that you borrow from me, I do that for you! That’s one less thing you need to do to prepare for your family photos.

I also help you put together your outfits, and find clothing online using my styling tool. I will send a location guide for you to choose from so there’s no need to worry about doing your own location research. I’ve already scouted out the best spots with the best light and prettiest backdrops!

How can we make sure the actual photo session is fun?

“Not only was the session stress-free, but it was FUN!!! My favorite part was how easy going Becca is; nothing was cheesy or forced. Everything felt natural. Our newborn was awake and on the verge of tears for 98% of the shoot, and you would never know it from all of the INCREDIBLE photos.”

One of the things that make my sessions so fun is that we play games. I have little games for your family to play that will get you into the positions I want for cute photos. Sometimes it’s really simple, like bouncing up and down a few times. Other times it’s more lively, like having dad throw a toddler in the air while mom sways back and forth with the other child. Walking together, tickling on a blanket, telling each other jokes or stories. But if your child isn’t loving something, then we just try something else. It’s all very relaxed and we go with the flow. The goal is to keep the kids (and parents, too) happy and having a good time! And sometimes I will step back and just give you a chance to be yourselves. Cuddle, play, dance, explore, whatever feels natural for your family.

How do we get beautiful and connected photos?

“I don’t know how she did it, but I basically “favorited” every photo in the entire gallery. She somehow made us look “picture perfect”…!?!?! Everyone who has seen them comments, “These are INSANE!!””

One thing that parents don’t realize is that we only need a split second of a smile or laugh. That’s it. So it may feel like your child is upset for a lot of the session but really, if they smile a few times for half a second, then I’ve gotten what I need! And all the photos don’t need to be smiling and happy, either. Sometimes a calm and cuddly moment can be just as beautiful. All you need to do as parents is to have fun with your kids, show them lots of attention and love, and let them lead.
