Oregon Coast Family & Couples Photographer

Plan a fun day with your family or loved one exploring the beach, running from the waves, relaxing by a bonfire in the sand, or dancing in the sunset during your Oregon coast family or couples photography session. I’ve been a photographer for over 11 years, and I would love to help you plan a great family or date night experience at the beach!

Where should we schedule our Oregon Coast photos?

My favorite locations on the Oregon Coast, in no particular order, are Rockaway BeachPacific City, Oceanside, Lincoln City, and Cannon Beach but we can go anywhere within 2 hours of 97236 without any additional travel fees (Roughly from Astoria to Lincoln City). If you want to venture farther south to Yachats or Florence, we definitely can, there will just be an additional fee.

When choosing locations, I like to have some sort of element that will help block the sun which will give you the best results at sunset (for example, a rock, driftwood, or a jetty). I will help you find the perfect spot based on lighting, natural elements, tides, and crowds!

When is the best time to book a photo session at the Oregon Coast?

The weather at the coast can be pretty unpredictable, so if you’re looking for a semi-warm day, then booking your session in the summer is going to be the safest choice. Your beach session will be around an hour, so the best time to start would be about an hour before sunset if the sun is out. This might vary depending on the location chosen. We would start 1.5-2 hours before sunset if it’s overcast to ensure that we have enough light.

Another thing to consider is the day of the week that you choose. There will be fewer crowds if you’re able to book on a weekday, but if you have to book your Oregon coast session on a weekend, we will do our best to deal with the crowds. If you like fewer people around, then avoid booking on a Saturday, if possible.

How can we have the best, most relaxed Oregon Coast photos?

You might be worried about the late session time if you have younger kids, so I’ve written a blog post to help you called 7 Tips to Keep the Kids Awake and Happy For Sunset Family Photos. Another way to keep your session stress-free is to book an overnight stay at the coast, so you don’t have to worry about driving home afterward. You can check AirbnbVRBO, or Expedia for places to stay. You can also read about how to keep a session with kids happy and fun: Why I Want Your Kids to Misbehave During Your Family Photo Session (sounds silly but it’s true!).

What should we wear for our beach photos?

Styling is my favorite and I am here to help you pick out the best outfits. You will have access to my client closet if you’d like to borrow anything. You’ll get access to a styling service that helps you find clothing online and create style boards to help you visualize your options. My favorite clothing for beach sessions are dresses and things that will show movement. I love fabrics with textures like gauze, lace, muslin, waffle cloth, and knits.

When choosing colors for your Oregon coast photos, choosing warmer shades helps to enhance the sunset colors, and keep your photos from looking too cool if it’s overcast. I love mustard, rust, caramel, brown, and dusty rose. You can mix in some olive, dirty blue, seafoam green or turquoise if you’d like. Also throw in lots of neutrals like off-white, cream, gray, and beige. For prints, add in a floral or two, maybe some stripes or polka dots, or go without a pattern and add interest by using textures instead. Be sure to watch the weather and have layers available if it’s windy and/or cold.

How can I book a couples or family photographer at the Oregon Coast?

You can send me a message to book your family, maternity, newborn or couples beach session so we can discuss location and available dates. I’m so excited to be your Oregon Coast photographer!

“I found Becca on IG after searching for Oregon based photographers for an upcoming vacation. She was really quick to respond, gave me TONS of information, asked lots of relevant questions, and offered advice when needed. I was anxious about hiring from out of state but she made the prep process and communication process so easy. Becca was incredibly helpful in recommending locations and digging into what we really wanted. She sent tips and recommendations leading up to our session that were really helpful. Her site is great for sending payments/signing online contracts – she just made it all so easy!! Her recommended location was IDEAL and she knows her stuff!! The session itself was great – always a few jitters right at the start but after a very short time, we were comfortable and she just let us do our thing with only little direction like I had hoped for. The candids are SO good – I seriously cried when we got our photos because I was so thrilled with them. She was sweet, ever patient, funny, and just easy to be around. I couldn’t recommend her more!!” Denice A.
