Playful Portland Family Photography
If you’ve seen my work, you know that my family photography sessions are full of laughter, games, and FUN. But do you know why I’ve set them up this way and what it means for you and the photos you will receive? Well, that’s what this blog post is for. Read on to find out!
During my outdoor family sessions, I LOVE to have families play games. But they aren’t just any old games, they are ones that will get you guys into the position that I want in order to get a great photo! I’m sneaky like that.
Do your kids like to run?
Perfect. I’ll have them run from behind me, straight to mom and dad who are waiting to either get a big family hug, or to pick up the youngest and swing them in the air.
Is your toddler a bit shy?
That’s fine! I’ll stand back and ask dad to play a fun game of bounce, bounce, stop. Yep, it is played exactly as it sounds and toddlers and kids LOVE it.
Are you afraid that your family won’t last for an entire session?
Don’t worry! We take dance breaks! I’ll play a fun song and your little ones get to show off their moves (I’m sure they have some awesome ones!). We might even do a dance contest. Dancing helps get the wiggles out and I always get some great photos from it.
I’ve even had a family bring a soccer ball for the end of the session. It wasn’t even necessarily for the photos (although I got some really cool shots of everyone going for the ball!), it was more to give the kids something to look forward to at the end and to create a great memory for them.
I’m not going to give away all my games here because I want it to be a fun surprise during your session, but I will say that I’ve had kids begging for the session not to be over because they don’t want the games to stop (yay!).
All the photos below involve some kind of game. Can you guess what the games are?
Aside from having a great time during your photography session and creating family memories, you also get these happy images that you and your kids will love looking at!
One of my kids’ favorite things to do is cuddle up with me on the couch and look through photo albums. My hope is that you will do that with your kids and enjoy the looks on their faces when they see the joy and love in their photos.
